1. Empty fuel can
If you run out of fuel on the road, you can walk or get a lift to the nearest petrol station with your empty can to fill up.
2. Spare tyre
Some cars are now sold without a spare wheel and finding out you don’t have one when you most need it can be quite a shock. Make sure you’re carrying a spare tyre in good condition and that you know how to change it.
3. Tyre jack
Without a tyre jack, a spare tyre is pretty useless, so keep one on hand just in case you need to change a tyre.
4. Jump leads and a portable battery pack
Avoid getting stranded with a flat battery by carrying jump leads, then you can get a jump start from another motorist. Better yet, grab a portable battery pack and you won't need to rely on another vehicle to get you up and running again. To learn how to jump start your car, check out our video guide.
5. User manual
Pop your user manual in the glovebox and you’ll have all the information about your car to hand whenever you need it. Yes, it's usually an incredibly dense read, and you can usually find everything you need to know online, but to protect against patchy mobile network signal or misinformation on the web, it's always worth keeping your manual in the dash.

So what can you do about it? You're (probably) not a mechanic, after all.
Fortunately, you don't have to be a mechanic to give yourself a much better chance of getting home or to the nearest repair shop with a small kit of essential tools and equipment--and in the event of an accident or other emergency, you'll even increase your odds of survival.
This short list of items encapsulates some of the most functional and likely items you'll need, while requiring minimal mechanical or other knowledge to employ. They're the basics. You could load your car up with dozens of other tools, of course, but you could also do a lot worse than keeping these nine inexpensive core items with you at all times.

If your car has been running hot, you know the feeling. You're sitting in traffic, the light turns green, and you pray that traffic breaks enough for you to get some air flowing over the radiator so that engine temperature needle will go down just a little bit. It's beyond stressful, and there's no reason you should be forced to endure this. The fact is, there are only a few things that commonly cause an engine to overheat regularly.
1. Low Coolant By a large margin, the most common cause for engine overheating is simply a low coolant level. Your engine's cooling system relies on coolant to circulate and remove heat from the engine. If you don't have enough coolant in there to do the job, heat will build up and your engine will overheat. No amount of running the heater in the summer will help if you don't have enough coolant in the radiator to transfer that heat.
2. Electric Cooling Fan Failure If you have an electric cooling fan that isn't coming on, this can cause your engine to overheat. The electric cooling fan draws cooler air through your radiator when your car isn't going fast enough to ram it through from the front. You can test this by letting your car idle long enough for the engine to heat up. If you've been having an overheating problem in traffic, keep an eye on your temperature gauge. When it starts creeping into the danger zone, look under the hood to see if your electric fan is running. If it's not, you'll need to figure out why. There are two usual causes to this:
2a. Bad Electric Fan: Sometimes your fan motor will just burn out and your fan won't come on at all. To test this, find your radiator fan switch and disconnect the wiring harness. Get a jumper wire and insert it into both contacts, your fan should come on. Another way to test the fan is to turn on the air conditioning. Most, but not all, cars activate the cooling fan at either a medium or high speed when you turn on the AC.
2b. Bad Radiator Fan Switch: There is a switch that tells your cooling fan to come on when your coolant reaches a certain temperature. The easiest way to test this switch is to disconnect the wiring harness and then run a jumper wire across the harness contacts. If the fan comes on, you need to replace the switch.
3. Thermostat Not Opening The most common symptom of a failed thermostat is overheating at highway speeds. Your engine may be able to stay cool at low speeds because it's not working that hard, and therefore not creating as much heat. But at highway speeds your engine needs lots of coolant flowing through. If the thermostat doesn't open, there isn't enough flow to keep things cool, and you'll find yourself looking more like a steam ship than a sedan going down the highway.
4. Broken Fan Belt There are still lots of engines out there which have a fan belt to drive the engine cooling fan. If you see a belt attached to your fan, you're in this club. The good news is your repair is always cheaper than the electric guys. You can replace your fan belt easily if it's broken.
5. Clogged Radiator If your car has more than 50,000 miles on it, your radiator could start getting gummed up. You can avoid this and other problems associated with old coolant by flushing your radiator every year. There's nothing good about an overheating problem. If your engine is running hot you should try to fix the problem as quickly as possible. A hot engine can do damage to itself, even if you aren't going into a full overheating. Check your oil regularly to be sure you are providing adequate lubrication to your engine, everything you can do to reduce heat buildup helps! Power steering issues can be very difficult to diagnose, and leaks even harder to trace. On GM vehicles, especially GMC and Chevy trucks, the power steering system’s hard lines are very prone to rust and corrosion, which can lead to one — or dozens - of pinhole leaks that introduce air to the power steering’s hydraulics and leak fluid. While none of these leaks are large, they are often enough to drain the system of fluid over time.
Such small leaks are very hard to notice as they often don’t even leave a drip in the driveway. A low power steering fluid level can cause a number of malfunctions in your steering including excessive noise, jumpy steering, or very difficult steering. On top of that, you can do damage to the power steering components if they are allowed to run dry.
One of the most common sources of power steering leaks in GM trucks is the power steering line assembly. This is a hard line that also includes a small integrated power steering fluid cooler, which just loves to grow rust. Luckily, replacing this assembly isn’t too expensive and can be done fairly easily in your driveway or garage. Here’s how to get it done:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv6E_Eml_vUlfl78o4gb_qQdxyZu9eRGN0CZW4Y0LcrEXYWSUHvZGRss7ZiM8z_YlsSjuWVsy4M9h9iiRRjXJuPCREIauOCMs87G4lrPsXpdGIZhyPAQRrRpog-ei_1pJxV3zAQNm1RD0/s1600/SAM_0518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv6E_Eml_vUlfl78o4gb_qQdxyZu9eRGN0CZW4Y0LcrEXYWSUHvZGRss7ZiM8z_YlsSjuWVsy4M9h9iiRRjXJuPCREIauOCMs87G4lrPsXpdGIZhyPAQRrRpog-ei_1pJxV3zAQNm1RD0/s320/SAM_0518.JPG" /></a></div> 1. START DISCONNECTING.To remove the old power steering line, we have to start by disconnecting from the top. Disconnect the end of the line that attaches to the power steering fluid reservoir by removing the spring clamp on the side. Carefully pull the line off the reservoir. We don't care about the line, but don't want to break the tip off the reservoir!
2. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_VmLWGsV8JA9-3IVBvpsxlCgXXvPS32uLy-lvAFWdD3XM92MCh-EcMK6ZqW3io3T_i2v4NrvvTlymXQ9HR5ye9erE6BnBtIOT7VG-XL0f22xyc4PVtReqdm4Q1QIJeso2x4mXhb49Uk/s1600/SAM_0518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_VmLWGsV8JA9-3IVBvpsxlCgXXvPS32uLy-lvAFWdD3XM92MCh-EcMK6ZqW3io3T_i2v4NrvvTlymXQ9HR5ye9erE6BnBtIOT7VG-XL0f22xyc4PVtReqdm4Q1QIJeso2x4mXhb49Uk/s320/SAM_0518.JPG" /></a></div> REMOVE THE HEAT sHIELD Remove the protective tin shield that covers the lines just past the point that they transition from flexible rubber to rigid steel. There are two bolts holding this shield on.
3.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib9r03w0VbSsteiJOjwaec_87MY7SX-hxnVI_BtBebagWmjUSKBUS0MC2xE1XNdZpbRccGj2E_76LfVqhiqiCO1X1Lg5ON_C3cWNgqfDwiBlLEzSKaK00kk-ISlf4iux9el-gF7zlaZUw/s1600/SAM_0525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib9r03w0VbSsteiJOjwaec_87MY7SX-hxnVI_BtBebagWmjUSKBUS0MC2xE1XNdZpbRccGj2E_76LfVqhiqiCO1X1Lg5ON_C3cWNgqfDwiBlLEzSKaK00kk-ISlf4iux9el-gF7zlaZUw/s320/SAM_0525.JPG" /></a></div> DISCONNECT FROM THE RACK Follow the hard line to the power steering rack. There you’ll see four lines going into the rack itself. You want to remove the line that you traced from the rusty power steering fluid cooler. Use a line wrench for removing this to avoid destroying it in the process.
4.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqEnQNtRQ1E8euG2-bb6gKzqq__H5wHVIjvPtlIDMgrWNrKzL7kK0cfZ_u47WJWnNzGKyZPRPj1OmBWcSL4bK66SJ06TdnIXglerPEiUhoqP3iD8kQeN_sqtUPiHKi-v5eVc-BZ1rvmTI/s1600/SAM_0529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqEnQNtRQ1E8euG2-bb6gKzqq__H5wHVIjvPtlIDMgrWNrKzL7kK0cfZ_u47WJWnNzGKyZPRPj1OmBWcSL4bK66SJ06TdnIXglerPEiUhoqP3iD8kQeN_sqtUPiHKi-v5eVc-BZ1rvmTI/s320/SAM_0529.JPG" /></a></div> OIL COOLER REMOVAL There is a bolt attaching the power steering fluid cooler section to the truck. This needs to be removed before you can get the line and cooler off.
With everything unbolted you should be able to coax the whole assembly out of the engine area. If you get frustrated, you can always cut a section out to make it easier to remove. Your new lines won’t mind.
5.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwn4B4vRMgye3sI3gTZ4pxzASuOkFawtxMgOmmGwp1lCZL3ikn5DYG_1RHoiA_8PJsp8eCAommNUQJklXnoB7N63GncaRFV7JCJt7p08NzDAttrHpzUxFszP-MIH0pXTHRB-hnjcSp55w/s1600/SAM_0542.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwn4B4vRMgye3sI3gTZ4pxzASuOkFawtxMgOmmGwp1lCZL3ikn5DYG_1RHoiA_8PJsp8eCAommNUQJklXnoB7N63GncaRFV7JCJt7p08NzDAttrHpzUxFszP-MIH0pXTHRB-hnjcSp55w/s320/SAM_0542.JPG" /></a></div> Carefully wiggle and twist the new line into place, taking care to route the lines in the same manner they were originally installed. Use your line wrench to tighten the nut at the power steering rack. The other end of the line goes to the power steering fluid reservoir and is attached via a clamp.
Don’t skip reinstalling the heat shield. You may not think it’s important, but if heat were to become a problem, you would regret not having that heat shield installed as your power steering started to freak out from boiling fluid.
Reattach the power steering fluid cooler to the frame.
Refill the power steering fluid reservoir and run the engine to get things circulating again and fill the system with fluid. The air should purge out on its own. You should monitor the level of the power steering fluid and add more as needed. It will drop significantly as the lines refill with fluid. I’ve set some money aside in my budget for a new car radio, but one feature I’m really stuck on is GPS. Some people talk about it like it’s absolutely necessary, but I’m not sure I really see the point. I know the area I live in really well, and I don’t venture out of my comfort zone very often, so the huge sticker price just doesn’t seem worth it. Convince me that I actually need GPS in my car.
Answer:
Over the course of the last decade, in-car navigation has slowly matured from an expensive (and often inaccurate) novelty into an indispensable tool that grows more and more ubiquitous each day. In-car navigation has never been more accessible, and gaining access to it doesn’t actually have to cost you an arm and a leg. In fact, it’s not only available via expensive head units, you can also find standalone devices that are very reasonably priced, and there are a handful of cell phone apps that can get the job done for a fraction of the cost.
Who Needs GPS Navigation?
I suppose that the most important question here really boils down to, “who needs a GPS navigation system in their car?” Although I’m not familiar with your particular situation, I can outline some of the reasons that people in general might need GPS, which should help you (and any other fence-sitters) make an informed choice.
Off the top of my head, here are some of the top reasons you might enjoy having access to satellite navigation in your car:
You don’t like getting lost.
Getting stuck in traffic sucks.
Time is money (and so is gas), so finding the quickest route is important.
Never Say “I’m Lost” Again
If you really know your hometown (and immediate environs) so well that you never have to look up an address, then getting lost probably isn’t an issue. There are also a ton of mapping and route-planning resources available on the internet, so you can always look up a tricky or confusing address before you hit the road. However, a good, updated GPS navigation device means never having to say, “I’m lost” again, and that’s pretty valuable.
Who Needs Traffic on the Tens?
Traffic data isn’t a standard feature that’s found in every single GPS navigation device, but it is a feature that can make your commute a whole lot less frustrating. It essentially overlays real-time traffic data on the GPS display, which can allow you to avoid traffic jams before you ever get stuck in them. Some GPS devices can automatically avoid bad traffic via intelligent route-planning that’s designed to find the shortest travel time instead of the shortest physical route.
The Importance of Efficiency and Time
Depending on your priorities, you may value efficiency more than time, or the other way around, but GPS navigation can help you in either case. The main issue is that there are typically a number of different ways to get from point A to point B, and each route has its own unique characteristics. One thing that every GPS system can do is find the shortest path, which can save you a lot of time in aggregate (especially when coupled with integrated traffic data.)
However, some GPS navigation systems provide other options. For instance, systems like Ford’s Eco-Route can take factors like traffic, terrain, and even stop signs and traffic likes into account when planning a route. Rather than finding the shortest or quickest way to get to point B from point A, these systems find the most efficient path. According to Ford, it’s possible to see a 15 percent increase in efficiency (i.e. gas mileage) when using Eco-Route over the long term.
GPS Navigation Options
If you’re interested in a satellite navigation system, but the high price tag is turning you off, then it’s important to note that there are three main ways to get GPS navigation in any car:
Navigation head units
Standalone GPS devices
Cellphone apps
Navigation head units tend to be pretty expensive. So while that is an option if you’re planning on upgrading anyway, and you happen to find one you like, it’s far from the only option. Standalone GPS devices have come down a lot in price over the course of the last decade, and they’ve gotten to the point where you might even save enough money in gas in the first year to pay for a mid-priced unit. They aren’t as clean or integrated as nav radios (or OEM infotainment systems), but they do come with the added benefit of portability, which means you can move them from one car to another—or even use them outside of a car altogether.
The cheapest, easiest way to get satellite navigation in a car is probably always going to be a cellphone app. If you have a modern iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, or Blackberry, there’s a pretty good chance that it has a built-in GPS radio, which means you’re already carrying around all the hardware you need. All you have to do is add an inexpensive cellphone GPS app that can take advantage of that hardware, and you’re good to go. Remember to share using the share buttons

Some of the most important factors that may influence your decision making process include:
* budget
* integrated navigation vs. standalone unit
* core features
* map availability
* additional features.
BUDGET money is no object, it’s a good idea to start off by setting a general price range. If you’re looking to spend less than a hundred dollars, you’re probably going to have to settle for a small screen and scrimp a little on the features. You can also look for a bargain on an older model, but make sure that you don’t end up with outdated maps that are either costly or impossible to update.
Your budget will also inform your decision to go for an integrated unit or a standalone device. Head units that include built-in GPS navigation are typically quite expensive, so you may want to steer away from them unless your existing head unit is begging for an upgrade. In that case, there are some head units that include integrated GPS navigation that can boast some pretty impressive features.
INTEGRATED GPS NAVIGATION also an option in some higher end aftermarket head units. While these GPS navigation units tend to be quite expensive, they’re also pretty slick. If you’re opposed to sticking a blocky device to your dash or windshield, and you’re also looking to update your head unit, an integrated device could be a good way to go.
Some of these head units that include built-in navigation are also full fledged carputers, so that’s something else to keep in mind.
STANDALONE CAR GPS DEVICES
These GPS units are typically the less expensive option, but that doesn’t mean they’re all cheap. Standalone units span the full range of sub-$100 budget models to feature-packed units that commonly have price tags of over $300.
Other than price, the main benefit of standalone GPS devices is portability. Since they aren’t built into the dash of any one vehicle, you have the option of using one device in more than one vehicle. This is even easier if you pick up an extra mount and power supply.
Core Features
There are a handful of features that you should look for regardless of your budget or any other concerns. The most important ones include:
* screen size and resolution
* type of receiver
* audible directions
* automatic routing
Screen size and resolution are typically tied very closely to price. Budget models tend to have smaller screens with lower resolutions, and you can expect to pay a lot more for units that come with big, detailed touchscreens. If you’re not familiar with GPS screen sizes, you may want to check out a few in person before you buy. In order to determine whether a screen is big enough, you can stand back a few feet and try glancing at it. If you have trouble making it out, then you might want to step up to a larger screen.
As far as receivers go, some are more sensitive than others. GPS units that have low sensitivity receivers fall into the budget category, but not every budget model has a poor receiver. If you want to make sure that your GPS unit actually knows what road you’re on, look for a unit that has a high sensitivity receiver.
And while most car GPS devices include audible directions, they aren’t all created equal. Some units include text-to-speech technology that allows them to read out actual street names, which can come in handy when you’re driving in an unfamiliar area. Other devices are nearly unintelligible, so it’s vital to take the quality of the audible directions into account when shopping for a car GPS unit.
Other less important features that can come in handy include:
* traffic
* lane assist
* voice input
* 3D map view
* points of interest
* There are also a handful of non-core features that you may find, such as:
* built-in MP3 player
* digital picture viewer
* hands-free calling
While these features may be useful in limited circumstances, they’re mainly useless fluff. Rather than looking for a Swiss army knife that can do a lot of unrelated stuff, it’s a much better idea to zero in on a device that does one thing (in this case, GPS navigation) really well.
a car GPS unit, you should also look into the:
MAP AVAILABILITY
Before you buy a car GPS unit, you should also look into the:
* availability of map updates
* timeliness of map updates
* cost of map updates
difficulty of updating the device
This is especially important if you’re buying a discounted unit that’s a little long in the tooth. While it’s possible to find some incredible deals by shopping for old stock and factory refurbished car GPS units, it’s vital to make sure that you don’t get stuck with old map data. If the map updates are expensive — or the company isn’t putting out updates anymore — it might be wise to take a pass.
ALTERNATIVE
Due to the prevalence of devices like smartphones, the days of the dedicated car GPS unit may be numbered. These devices used to be the only game in town, but you now have a variety of other options like:
* smartphone
* tablet
* carputer
* multimedia cellphone
If you already have any of those devices, you might want to check into the navigation options before dropping any money on a new car GPS unit. Some smartphones come with built-in GPS navigation, and there are also a number of applications that provide additional functionality.
Tablets and computers can do an even better job of replacing a standalone car GPS unit. And while your multimedia non-smartphone might not be a great choice for heavy usage, it may do the trick in a pinch.

That said, no modern Benz can match the grandeur of the old-school ones from the '30s through '50s.
Because nostalgia is one of the most potent economic forces in the world, this means that certain old Mercedes-Benzes can fetch truly ludicrous amounts of money at auctions. Between that and the rapidly inflating prices of top-tier classic cars, prices are going up very rapidly; we're talking eight figures here.

Buying a car of any kind is a significant financial investment, and you are likely relying on that vehicle to get you to and from your place of employment. Proper diligence is therefore essential to make sure that you are not being taken advantage of when purchasing a vehicle. There are common scams that conmen frequently rely on to swindle used car buyers out of their money. Recognizing these traps helps you to avoid becoming a victim of vehicle fraud yourself.
Faulty Mileage
One of the simplest scams is when a seller lies about the number of miles on a car. The seller rolls back the mileage on the speedometer or resets the digital readout, eliminates any past paperwork that shows the discrepancy, and raises the asking price of the car based off the lower mileage.
While the scam is often effective, it can be undone with a bit of research on your part.
Always research the VIN of any used car you are considering buying. Multiple services exist that look into a car’s history using the VIN for a nominal fee. This not only helps you validate the mileage, it also alerts you to any possible accident history or serious repair that you may not otherwise be aware of. A VIN check is not foolproof, but it is a very useful resource that you need to take advantage of when researching any used car.
It is also useful to take the car to a local auto dealership repair shop that specializes in that make of car. The dealership can check its own records for the vehicle, which should include any repairs that happened at any auto dealership (for that make of vehicle) nationwide. Any time a repair is done, the mechanic takes a record of the mileage on the car. If a previous repair shows a higher mileage than what the car is current showing, you know your speedometer has been tampered with and should avoid buying that vehicle.
Faulty Title
Buying a car off of Craigslist or any type of online private seller is always risky. That doesn’t mean that it cannot be done, but you need to do some extra research to make sure that the seller of the car is the actual legal owner of the vehicle. Scam artists often steal a car, falsify a title and then sell the car online. By the time you discover that your car title is faulty, the seller has long since vanished. The vehicle must then be returned to its rightful owner, and you have no real recourse to get your money back.
Verify that the car seller has the title in his possession. Always compare the car title to a current driver’s license of the car seller. If any excuse is given as to why the seller does not currently have the title, look for another vehicle. It is not worth the risk. Contact the DMV with any questions about legality prior to giving the seller any money.
Hidden Repairs
Used car sellers, whether they be private or an actual dealer, will often get the vehicle looking as good as possible while ignoring or covering up substantial repair needs. Never buy a car without test driving it first. However, a short test drive is often not enough to uncover potentially long-term repair liabilities. Always take any used car you want to buy to a trusted mechanic for a full inspection before you make any purchase. Use a mechanic that you are familiar with, and not one the seller recommends. The small fee that you pay now for the inspection can save you thousands of dollars in the future and eliminate years of mental stress caused by buying a vehicle that is unreliable and expensive to fix.
Used cars are more cost-effective than new models, because vehicle depreciation is still one of the highest costs associated with the car. A new car drops in value as soon as you drive it off the lot to take it home. However, you do have fewer protections and more instability when buying a used vehicle. This is why proper research and taking your time is so important. Always make sure you are completely comfortable with the history, condition and pricing of a used car before you turn over your hard-earned money for it.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-74685723140934034512016-03-24T05:43:00.000-07:002016-03-24T05:45:28.881-07:00PREVENTING MOTORCYCLE THEFT<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NSWzTMCmmtpkTFt7yNAe8NeUTQSByQZ5xtwgiqHGtFcB5qIqH-cv-Jd3pyCg3m2BHboQUIvFHSnnaRsil8wZVp05J1sJwr9L7bKg_wZ5ZtcmLOavhoik9rSBWiH-8DsZuuk6mRfKkC4/s1600/GettyImages-482150189.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NSWzTMCmmtpkTFt7yNAe8NeUTQSByQZ5xtwgiqHGtFcB5qIqH-cv-Jd3pyCg3m2BHboQUIvFHSnnaRsil8wZVp05J1sJwr9L7bKg_wZ5ZtcmLOavhoik9rSBWiH-8DsZuuk6mRfKkC4/s320/GettyImages-482150189.jpg" /></a></div>Motorcycles typically get stolen for several reasons. Some people steal them simply to joyride around, and the theft was one of opportunity. Others steal motorcycles to commit additional crimes with them. The acceleration, maneuverability and smaller size of a motorcycle makes it an ideal getaway vehicle, depending on what the crime is. Finally, others steal motorcycles to strip them for parts or to sell them, and the theft is how the thief makes a living. This is the toughest type of thief to protect your motorcycle from, because he is better prepared to deal with typical motorcycle security measures than an amateur looking for a quick ride. The same features that make a motorcycle fun to ride make it easier to steal.
The Challenge
Motorcycles are small, and the ignition is in the open air, without doors or a roof protecting it from burglars. A thief therefore has easier access to the motorcycle controls, and he can also tow a bike away without much difficulty if he has the time and the equipment.
The motorcycle’s smaller stature also makes it harder to locate it after it has been stolen. Motorcycle’s are easily hidden and stored. However, this also works to your advantage when protecting your bike from thieves.
Security Options
Keep your motorcycle out of sight when not using it. A cover helps protect it from the rain, and also makes the bike harder to see if you choose a neutral color. The cover also hides the type if motorcycle and its features, making it less of a target for thieves looking for specific types of bikes.
Park your motorcycle strategically. Keep it in a garage if you have one, and park it close to cars when out in public. If your bike is parked by itself, it is a more attractive target.
Always use the ignition lock. They are far from fool-proof, and an experienced thief works around them. However, an ignition lock provides another barrier that takes time to break. The harder your bike is to steal, and the longer it takes a thief to steal it, the safer it is. Many bikes that get stolen either didn’t have an ignition lock or didn’t have it properly engaged at the time of the theft.
Lock your bike to a proper barrier whenever you can. Use a strong lock to anchor your motorcycle to a lamppost or a rack that is bolted to the ground when parked in public. Use a thick chain and run it through the center of the motorcycle’s frame.
A disc lock is also useful. It locks onto the bike like an additional brake, and the wheel can’t turn until the lock is removed.
An alarm system is an additional theft barrier. It functions in the same fashion as a car alarm, creating a loud noise when it gets disturbed.
Some cars have kill switches that shut off the fuel supply to the motor when the car gets tampered with. Motorcycles have something similar, and a thief won’t know where the kill switch is located. They are inconspicuous and difficult to spot.
Never leave your helmet or any supplies with the bike when it is parked, unless those items are secured. Some motorcycles have a storage space with a lock. Make sure the lock is strong if you have one, and always lock the storage locker when leaving the motorcycle unsupervised.
If you don’t have a storage space on the bike, keep your belongings in a backpack when you use the motorcycle. Keep the backpack with you once the motorcycle’s parked.
Whether you use your motorcycle for regular transportation or just for recreation, it represents an investment that you don’t want to lose. Take as much time and care protecting your motorcycle as you did purchasing it. Keep detailed records of your bike and its components as well, so you can prove a stolen motorcycle is yours if it gets recovered.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-3842148635121581912016-03-24T04:04:00.001-07:002020-03-02T00:39:57.423-08:00DEVICES TO PREVENT CAR THEFTAn average of over 2 billion dollars worth of cars are stolen in Nigeria per year, with less than 15 percent of them recovered. A car doesn’t have to be expensive to be a target. Thieves often steal vehicles just to strip them of their parts and metal components. Others steal cars to use as getaway vehicles while committing other crimes. It doesn’t matter if you drive a new luxury sedan or an old pickup truck. Car theft is a reality that you need to guard against. Multiple devices are available that help protect against your vehicle getting stolen.
1. Car Alarm
Nearly everyone is familiar with the basic car alarm. You probably hear at least one or two go off every day if you live or work in a metropolitan area. The alarm activates when a thief breaks a window, opens a door or tries to start a car without turning the alarm off first. Some alarms are deactivated with an access code, while others turn off remotely using a key fob.
One advantage of car alarms is that they make it harder for a car thief to operate anonymously. Thieves don’t want attention, and a loud, blaring siren is bound to get the attention of anyone nearby, including the car owner. As a result, the thief is more likely to bypass a car with an alarm for a vehicle without one.
The disadvantage of car alarms is how common they are and how often they go off accidently. The panic button on the key fob in someone’s pocket often gets pushed accidently, either in the pocket or while the owner is pulling the keys out, and this triggers a false alarm. Society in general is so used to car alarms going off inadvertently that many people don’t even turn and look in the direction of an alarm anymore. It’s become a normal part of urban society. Some alarms are also expensive and may not be in your price range.
2. Steering Wheel Lock Bar
A steering wheel lock bar slides over the steering wheel and locks in place, preventing a thief from being able to turn the wheel because the bar hits the car door, preventing the wheel from turning. The bar is typically made out of hardened metal to make it difficult to cut. It also slides inward to make it more compact when not in use, allowing you to store it quickly under the seat or in the trunk.
One advantage of the steering wheel lock bar is that it’s simple and easy to use. It fits onto the steering wheel in seconds and just requires a key to remove it. It is also cost-effective, with many brands costing less than $50.
One disadvantage is inconvenience. While it is quick to put on and take off, this process easily grows tiresome for some users, and you likely grow complacent over time and start leaving it off more often than putting it onto the steering wheel. The other disadvantage is that the bar is easy to remove for a prepared thief. While the bar itself is difficult to cut, the steering wheel itself is not. A thief with a saw or knife hacks through the steering wheel and pulls the lock bar off in a few seconds.
3. Kill Switch
A kill switch works either as a stand-alone device or with an alarm system. When a thief tries to start the car without a key, the kill switch cuts off the fuel to the car or shuts off the electrical system, preventing the thief from taking the car anywhere. The kill switch is disengaged with a plastic key or an entry code, much like a car alarm.
One advantage of a kill switch is that it makes it harder for a thief to take the car after he has broken into it. While a kill switch does nothing to protect the valuables in your car, the car itself is not likely to go anywhere. The cost of a kill switch is minimal, typically under $100.
The disadvantage is that some people dislike having to enter a code or insert an extra key every time they want to start their car. The other disadvantage is if the kill switch malfunctions, you can’t drive your car anywhere until it is repaired. It also does nothing to prevent someone from breaking into the car itself because the switch is usually hidden.
4. Brake Lock
A brake lock works by attaching to your brake pedal and locking behind it, making it impossible to suppress the brake until the device is removed. It is made out of hardened metal as well, making it difficult to cut. Cutting the brake pedal itself renders the vehicle essentially undriveable, making it an unlikely solution for car thieves.
The advantage of this is that it is cost-effective, typically under $40, and easy to use. It offers a more reliable car theft solution than the steering wheel lock bar, because it is not as easily removed.
The disadvantage is the inconvenience of placing the lock on and taking the lock off every time you get in and out of your car. There are devices on the market specifically designed to break off the brake lock as well, but a car thief needs to be prepared with one, which is usually unlikely.
5. Tracking Device
A tracking device uses GPS technology to follow your car after it is stolen, aiding in its recovery. Many services also offer in-car communication as well, where a representative from the tracking company contacts you in the event of a car accident and dispatches emergency services to your location. Many tracking companies can also disable a car remotely if they know the car has been stolen.
Having a sticker on the car advertising the tracking device acts as a deterrent because thieves don’t want the hassle of trying to deactivate it and don’t want to risk capture by stealing a car that police can track. Tracking devices make your car easier to be found in the event of a theft, and therefore offer additional piece of mind as well.
It's the best reliainstall convenient option for car security also work as surveillance. Contact vehicle's tracker 9ja for vehicle's tracking solutions and recovery in Nigeria.

Even before the transmission completely fails, poor shifting and unpredictable behavior in general can make your car or truck far less than a pleasure to drive. In some cases, a transmission problem can be traced to a minor issue, which means you've dodged a huge repair bill and avoided a rebuilt. In the letter below, one owner describes his Toyota Camry transmission issue. For cars built after 1998, there will be a much more detailed trail of OBD Codes to follow, which is even more helpful in diagnosis. If you can't figure it out, you can go to the transmission shop, but it never hurts to get as much info on your own as possible before you hand the keys to somebody who is going to write an expensive repair ticket.
Question
I have a 1987 Toyota Camry. It has a 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission and 285,000 miles. It has fuel injection, P/S and A/C. I've been having a problem with the transmission shifting.
It is an intermittent problem. Most notably, sometimes when I pull out, it shifts from low right into overdrive and sometime it won't come out of overdrive when on the highway.
Sometimes I'll push the gas pedal to the floor trying to get it to "shift up" and it's like it comes out of gear all together and the engine revs like it's in neutral. I just got it out of the transmission shop today after having a partial rebuild and a rebuilt valve body put in it. I still have the same problem.
The transmission was completely rebuilt about 6 years ago. I've been told this could be a problem with a shift solenoid. If so, is this an easy and inexpensive repair and is the shift solenoid located on the outside or the inside of the transmission?
Could it have anything to do with the engine idle being set too high? I would very much appreciate any advice you could give me.
Thank you,
Mr Akinwale
Answer
It is likely the problem is electrical in nature. So the first thing you should do is see if any codes are stored in the Transmission Control Module (TCM). once we know what those codes are, we can go from there.
Here's how to do read the diagnostic trouble codes from your automatic transmission.
Turn ignition switch and OD switch to ON. Do not start engine. Note: warning and diagnostic code can be read only when the overdrive switch is ON. If OFF the overdrive light will light continuously and will not blink.
Short DG terminal circuit using a service wire, short the terminals ECT and E1. Read diagnostic code. Read the diagnostic code as indicated by the number of times the OD "OFF" light flashes.
Diagnostic Code
If the system is operating normally, the light will blink for 0.25 seconds every 0.5 seconds.
In the event of a malfunction, the light will blink for 0.5 seconds every 1.0 seconds. The number of blinks will equal the first number and, after 1.5 second pause, the second number of the two digit diagnostic code. If there are two or more codes, there will be a 2.5 second pause between each.
Remove the service wire from the DG terminal.
NOTE: In the event of several trouble codes occurring simultaneously, indication will begin from the smaller value and continue to the larger.
One More NOTE: If codes 62, 63 and 64 appear, there is an electrical malfunction in the solenoid. Causes due to mechanical failure, such as a stuck switch, will not appear.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-24811784004851094162016-03-23T14:33:00.002-07:002020-03-02T00:41:44.319-08:00HOW TO CHOOSE CAR SECURITYProtecting yourself and your family, as well as your vehicle, belongings, and car stereo are all excellent reasons to invest in a car security system. Additionally, most insurance companies offer lowered rates for vehicles equipped with an alarm — it'll pay for itself.
A good security system not only makes your car more difficult to steal, it also makes it easier to live with. The small remote control that you carry with your keys lets you arm and disarm the alarm, lock and unlock your doors, and maybe even zap open your trunk. Some systems let you use your smartphone to control and monitor your car's security. How's that for convenience?
How a typical security system works
When you leave the car, push the button that arms your system. You hear your doors lock, and a siren chirp tells you your vehicle is protected. If you've accidentally left a door ajar, the system alerts you with a different sound.
When you walk away, you feel confident, assured. The first thing a thief sees when he approaches your car is a flashing LED that tells him your system is armed. Often, that's enough to make him look elsewhere.
Some features to look for
Two-way remotes give you feedback on your car's condition and response to commands.
Starter kill prevents your car from being hot-wired.
Motion sensors let you leave the top down or the windows open. They are also good for protecting the cargo areas in vans and trucks. The sensors will sound the alarm if someone invades your space.
Glass-break sensors sound the alarm when they "hear" a window breaking. This protects you from the thief who believes he can bypass your alarm by not opening the door.
A tilt sensor monitors the tilting of your parked vehicle caused by an attempt to jack up or tow your vehicle.
Driver's side priority unlock lets you open your door without unlocking the others. You can get in your vehicle without letting your guard down.
Auxiliary outputs allow you to expand the alarm's capabilities by adding features like a remote starter or window controls. Most alarms come with at least one auxiliary output. Consider everything you want the security system to do (now and in the future) when choosing an alarm.
Remote starting is the epitome of convenience — you can have your vehicle waiting for you warmed up on a cold day, or cooled down in summer. Remote start features either come built into a security system or can be added later with a remote start module.
Smartphone — some remote systems let you use your smartphone for control, giving you unlimited range when you have phone service.
Consider adding GPS capability to your security system so you can keep track of your vehicle's location, and receive alerts when it leaves or enters a pre-programmed area, or is traveling too fast.

First, you have to figure out why your car sinks,and then you have to fix the problem. In the case of smells caused by mechanical issues, that may be the end of it. But in many cases, especially when the offensive odor has had time to really seep into every nook and cranny in your passenger compartment, you'll be left with a car that still reeks. There are number of different methods that can be useful in purging a bad odor once the source of the smell has been dealt with, so it's usually a good idea to start with basic and go from there.
1.Break Out the shop vac -> believe it or not, vacuuming is a great way to get rid of a lot of different bad car smells. It may not do the trick all by itself, but it is a great place to start. If you have a shop vacuum or a powerful unit, then you're set. If you don't, then you'll want to look for a repair shop, gas station, or a car wash that has a vacuum that you can use. You'll then need to go over both the carpeting and upholstery, being careful to hit every square inch.
Vacuuming often does the trick, but particularly stubborn odors may call for stream cleaning. Or you can move on to one of the other methods and leave the stream cleaning for later.
2.Absorb and neutralize the smell -> lingering odors that just seem to hang in the air, even after you've vacuumed the carpet and upholstery, can often be absorbed or neutralized by charcoal, baking soda, or variety if commercial products that are specifically designed for this purpose. Charcoal is a type of carbon that has a very large surface area in relationship to it's size, which allows it to absorb odors on the molecular level. This occurs via something called the van den Waal force, which is the same phenomenon that allows animals like spiders and geckos to walk up walls. If you're feeling frugal, you can set a few pieces of regular old barbecue charcoal in your car and leave them there for a while or you can buy a commercial charcoal odor removal product that is specifically designed for this purpose. Baking soda is also good at removing odors, which is why people like to keep an open box of the stuff in their fridge. Rather than just leaving a box of baking soda in your car, though, you'll want to sprinkle it on smelly carpet, leave it to set for a while, and then vacuum it up. Other products that are designed to knock out odors in your house, like odor-neutralizing sprays and odor-absorbing gels, can also do the same job in your car.
3. Use an air purifier or lon Generator -> car-sized air purifier and ion generators typically don't have the power necessary to tackle really persistent odors, but there are situations where they work well. If charcoal and baking soda don't do the trick, you may want to look into your air purifier options.
4. Take it to a professional ->
The best way to knock out some persistent odors, like smoke and mildew, is ozone. However, it's important to note that so-called "ozone generating" air purifier and filters you can buy for home use aren't up to the task. In fact, the EPA has warned that using air filters that generate ozone can actually be hazardous to your health. Ozone is actually toxic, and exposing yourself to the levels that are required to actually counteract stubborn odors would be very dangerous. So while ozone generator are available to the public, you may want to look for a professional who has experience knocking out stubborn car smells with ozone.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-68237784638366626202016-03-23T06:41:00.000-07:002016-03-23T16:33:40.370-07:00TOP REASONS YOUR CAR STINKWhen your car smells a little off, it's trying to tell you something. Bad car smells often indicate that something is wrong and put you on the right track to figuring out exactly what is it.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOWkOtuBl_3TrObqhmm4ZrIIUV9EloVr_cPsJVxHVmCzc3wW3rtgoTyoE_9K6SgjSlBoJLWXg3wZMHT9CYMvCmomJB1F3X9l5xH3RHF7YJo1SGUKDBr_nGn7zX1wDB-wM68_JjNz8Iurw/s1600/smoking-brakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOWkOtuBl_3TrObqhmm4ZrIIUV9EloVr_cPsJVxHVmCzc3wW3rtgoTyoE_9K6SgjSlBoJLWXg3wZMHT9CYMvCmomJB1F3X9l5xH3RHF7YJo1SGUKDBr_nGn7zX1wDB-wM68_JjNz8Iurw/s320/smoking-brakes.jpg" /></a></div> 1. Your brakes or clutch needs attention -> harsh, acrid smells typically mean that either brake or clutch material has been burnt. Riding your brake or leaving the parking brake on are both great ways to make your car smell like this, of course, a stuck caliper or frozen parking brake cable can also do the job for you. A burnt clutch smells similar to beprake pads that got too hot, and it can be caused bupy riding the clutch. It can also mean that your clutch is slipping, either because it's worn or it needs to be adjusted. In systems with hydraulic clutches, a slipping clutch can also indicate a problem with the hydraulic system.
2.you have an oil leak -> when oil drips on any part of the exhaust system, MIT burns. This smells really bad, and can also create copious amount of thick, blue smoke if leak is bad enough. The fix is simple enough. Get rid of the leak.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW0cg5KBTY9VxW_MtGMUW0tEjCfqf0GME4bFeDrpeOi9tJu4_vsUDQQg8BGiUACP8o6wPiFKmdtd56wvdj59WscRr8jA8VIfmfMv2OJ4TgNdANbw-hBnGPG8FjRY8kNCBpzR6EemjaBgY/s1600/GettyImages-94118002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW0cg5KBTY9VxW_MtGMUW0tEjCfqf0GME4bFeDrpeOi9tJu4_vsUDQQg8BGiUACP8o6wPiFKmdtd56wvdj59WscRr8jA8VIfmfMv2OJ4TgNdANbw-hBnGPG8FjRY8kNCBpzR6EemjaBgY/s320/GettyImages-94118002.jpg" /></a></div> 3.Your catalytic converter is busted -> catalytic converter are emissions control components that alter exhaust gasses to reduce harmful emissions. When they don't work right, you sometime ends up altering exhaust gasses to smell like someone spent most of last week throwing rotten eggs at your car.the fix is to replace the catalytic converter and also repair whatever caused it fall,assuming it didn't just wear out.
4. Water is getting where it doesn't belong -> a moldy or mildewy smell indicates that water is getting in your car to and then pooling there, leaky door iPod window seals can throw water in,so if you find wet seats or carpeting, then that's probably the issue. However, the A/C evaporator is very common cause of this particular odor.
5. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOec2GHhbqjJUKBoUpjpxc0FxmkkWMB44FC2oaqxtyQA1e_xpRlDRYU2B_uFbFZ6BfXn6S44RghVi2187RSrE525wWuhyKagLHSACxy4vcPs-vLjJ7mwx2K3d1IzAolQAj026sOL7Y2Bg/s1600/GettyImages-518346973.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOec2GHhbqjJUKBoUpjpxc0FxmkkWMB44FC2oaqxtyQA1e_xpRlDRYU2B_uFbFZ6BfXn6S44RghVi2187RSrE525wWuhyKagLHSACxy4vcPs-vLjJ7mwx2K3d1IzAolQAj026sOL7Y2Bg/s320/GettyImages-518346973.jpg" /></a></div> Your Groceries rolled under the seats -> most of the reasons a car can smell have to do with some mechanical breakdown or failure, but there are a lot of outside sources as well. Before you take your car to your favorite mechanic to ask why it smells like death in there, make sure to check under seats.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-73420155701032875242016-02-08T17:43:00.004-08:002016-03-24T04:59:29.353-07:00FIVE SIGNS YOUR CAR BATTERY IS DEAD ( OR ABOUT TO DIE )your vehicle's battery is like it's heart; without that battery, your vehicle wouldn't have power to start moving or do anything else.so it's important to understand at least a little bit about your battery, and to know the most common signs of a battery that needs to be replaced.
ABOUT YOUR BATTERY
The typical battery, in vehicle's made in 1952 and later, pump battery, a plastic cube containing sulfuric acid and lead, with two terminals coming out of the top or the side. This short guide should be reliable unless you have an aftermarket battery with special needs, such as a dry cell battery, or a hybrid like a Prius.
HERE'S SOME GENERAL WISDOM ABOUT YOUR AVERAGE BATTERY.
• Batteries normally have maximum life expectancy of two or three years, even if manufacturers say they will last for five years or more. If anyone sell you a "super long life" battery, keep your your receipt and get a warranty. Especially if you use the battery for a lot of accessories (things other than starting your car) it's unlikely to last as long as promised.
• Optimally, you should replace your battery every two and half years or so -before you have problems.
• Your battery needs some particular help doing its job starting your car: it needs help from your alternator,your starter, the solenoid, the battery terminals (which need to be clean and free from corrosion) , and its own cables (which need to be intact). Though as I argue below, the problem is very often just an old battery, I'll admit it can be something else.
• An old battery, even if it doesn't show any obvious signs of being old, can affect your vehicle in negative ways that will slowly add up to a big repair bill. That's why I recommend replacing your battery before you have problems with it.
• Your ordinary battery doesn't do so well in extremely cold weather, which may be why you have to pump the gas, or turn the key back to prime the fuel pump, or do a little dance to get the truck or car started on chilly mornings.
MY MESSAGE: CHECK OUT THE BATTERY
In my years as a mechanic and technician, one thing I have learned is that an old battery or loose battery cables can cause really big problems that make it appear that something complicated is wrong with your vehicle. Even experienced mechanics and DIY'er are sometimes stumped by a simple problem with a battery last its prime, until they realise they've riled out all other potential problems (and then some!). That's one of those moments you realise you could have saved yourself an hour of diagnostic and repair time, just by checking the battery and it's cables.
SIGNS 1: ENGINE CRANKS BUT DOESN'T START
If your engine cranks or turns over when you turn key, but it won't start, I say most likely culprit is your battery. it might something else, but 94% of time, its really your battery, even if the car is cranking fairly vigorously. Even if an ammeter (current-measuring device) says the battery is good, it can still be a few folks shy of what your vehicle needs to run efficiently.
When you find yourself with a car that won't crank hard enough to start, you'll want to use jumper cables or a jump-starter box to get your vehicle running again.
Once your car is running again, disconnect the canle , then let your car run for 30 minutes so that you alternator can charge up battery again. After that hour when you stop at home or a safe place, do a little test. After you turn the engine off, wait at least a minute, then start it again. wait another minutes or two, to make sure that you won't stranded with a dead battery at gas/petrol station or wherever you go next. Now, at the point, most batteries will have charged themselves up from the running of alternator and be fine for a day or two. DO NOT take that time for granted. Use it to hunt down a new battery and replace the old one BEFORE you end up stuck in the middle of nowhere.
SIGNS 2: NO CRANK, NO START, NO LIGHTS
This situation is pretty straightforward to diagnose, it's an even stronger indication that your battery is at faults, your battery powers all accessories and lights in your car, especially when the alternator is not running. So if your car just seems to be completely void of all signs of life, then your battery is the first thing you should be looking at. And aware that in this situation, where your vehicle doesn't even have the juice to work the lights or turn over the engine, it could be a combination problems involving your alternator was well as your battery.
SIGNS 3: ONE DAY IT STARTS FINE, THE NEXT DAY IT WON'T
If starting is an intermittent problem for you, it's a sign that either 1) your battery terminals are loose, broken, corroded, or calcified or 2) you have a parasitic draw ( your power is beimg drained by some gizmo that's on when supposed to be off, or by some wire that's touching something it shouldn't). Check out the battery cables first as they are usually the prime suspect and are easier to check yorself .Make sure the cables fit firmly and securely on the battery posts. There should be zero play in them; you shouldn't be able to wiggle them even an inch when they are tight. Also make sure that the cables going to the terminals are not frayed or falling apart;if they are, replace them as soon as possible. Parasitic draws from sources other than the battery cables are fairly common. Suspect a parasitic drawnif the car start right up if you drive it several days in a row, but then fails to start if you let it sit for a day. To investigate parasitic draw issues, see your favorite mechanic, and get ready to have fun with an ammeter or voltmeter, as these are the tools you'll need to check your alternator, accessories lights, fuses, radio, alarm, and all other components that might be draining your battery in secret.
SIGNS 4: YOU'VE JUMPED IT A LOT
I have a simple hard-and-come rule that I follow when it's comes to having to jump your battery. No matter what reason you having to jump the battery-the battery was old, or maybe the starter, fuel pump, or alternator were bad, or maybe you left your headlights on or your door ajar all night, or you ran out of gas-the rule is this: If you are to jump your vehicle more than three times in a single week, it's time to replace your battery. You could surprised, but even a fairly new battery can turn into a did really quickly if it has been jumped more than three times in a week. Using a jump box or jumper cables is hard on your battery. They work by figuratively "shocking" your battery. Now, you might think I'm crau about replacing the battery after such a low jump count, but hear me out. One of the most common things I see happening in relation to vehicle battery problems, is that the drivers or mechanic will assume that the because the battery wasn't old, or wasn't the specific culprit for the battery draining itself, they don't need to expand time or money getting a new battery. Then, when they try this this and that to diagnose the problem, they keep jumping the battery until finally the alternator and the starter go bad, leaving you with a need of new starter, alternator AND battery. save yourself the headache and replace the battery if you've had to jump the battery more than three times a week. You won't regret it.
SIGNS 5:COLD CRACKING IS JARD WORK
If you look at your battery, somewhere on it you should find a label starting a number for "cold cranking Amps" Those amps are responsible for giving your engine enough energy to get started the firs time of the day, generally referred to as "cold cranking" thus it's not surprising that an early sign that your battery is running out of life-a sign most people miss is that you are regularly putting extra energy into starting the vehicle. You know what I'm talking about. You get on your car, you tap the gas pedal, you turn the key a few times, and all you get for the first few minutes is lots of weak rotations of engine. After you've all but decided the car is going to make you late for work, suddenly starts up and sustains an idle. Now what I mean by "regularly" is having to do this more than three times a per week. That would be a signs that your battery is giving notice and getting ready to retire. But keep in mind that if it's really cold out, it's fairly normal for your vehicle to hang back and start only with difficulty. Not only is gas hard to vaporize and oil gooey when it's cold, but batteries put out half of their normal power when the temperature is 0°F (and only a third Of their power when it 32°F) so in the cold you may have to be patient. But if your car doesn't go back to a reliable "cold" crank when the weather warms upz you'll want to get a new battery within the next three months. One more possibility worth noting is that your battery was never big enough for your vehicle in the first place. Even a well-seasoned mechanic has gotten the wrong battery for specific vehicle, causing a wild - Goode chase investigation of a mysterious starting problem. Make sure you look up you car online, or ask in an auto part store, to find out what level of cold cranking Amps (CCA) and voltage your car needs to start and run properly.
WHEN WILL YOU REPLACE YOUR BATTERY?
I'm glad you've taken the time to read all the way through this article and started to considered when you will next replace your battery.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-32000481294913223362016-02-07T15:35:00.002-08:002020-03-02T00:47:30.794-08:00Tools your vehicles needsThere are almost as many types of car repairs as there are types and models of cars on the roads. Even for the separate vehicle systems, i.e. engine, transmission, etc., there are a multitude of repairs for each system. Then here's also maintenance items to consider.
1. A socket Set. This is the most basic tool set any mechanic needs. The vast majority of your vehicle is held together by nuts and bolts, and a good socket set will help you take it apart. I'd recommend going to Lowe's, Home Depot, or Sears. They all have their own brand of hand tools, all are reasonably priced and they all have a lifetime warranty. It's hard to go wrong with that! Additionally, these places will usually have a starter kit, or something similar, that will have a pretty good variety of the basic sizes and drives that you'll need to get the job done.
2. A Full Set of Screwdrivers. This seems like it would be so common that it wouldn't need to be on this list, but that's not the case. As with most anything else, if you need a screwdriver to remove a clamp, or to remove a clip that has a phillips head on it, not much else will do. At least not without a big hassle. When I say a full set of screwdrivers, I'm talking about the actual blade of the tool. There are different sizes of phillips head and flat head screwdrivers. If you need a size 3 phillips head and all you have is a size one, I promise you that you won't take that fastener off, and you'll most likely damage it to the point that the right size tool won't work anymore either.Exceltrackinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04010749691678335312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532039603331480001.post-50320917762415901302016-02-07T15:01:00.000-08:002020-03-02T00:51:32.706-08:00THEFT AUTO : PROTECT YOUR VEHICLES INVESTMENTFive things that car thieves don't like : Daytime, Alarms, Security cameras, Noise neighbors, vehicles tracking solutions/kills switches.
Thieves have to be quick and inconspicuous when stealing a car.that's why car thieves will avoid anything that may call attention to themselves.
So stealing cars at a certain time of the day makes it a successful steal. So they preferred to co e between 2 a.m and 5 a.m., because most of people are asleep and it's nice and quite and less distractions,less people walking around at the early morning.
